OCTOBER VEGAS PROMOTIONS

Local casinos have really geared up promotions for October.  Check those casino Website links I have given you in the past months to get all the details.  And also check Scot’s list for all the multiplier days.

CIRCUS CIRCUS

Here is a bit of players club information you might not have known – or, like me, had forgotten.

While Circus Circus falls under the MGM Resorts brand, the slot club is not linked to MGM’s Mlife club. The Circus Players Club operates independently and the card can also be used at Slots-A-Fun, next-door on the Las Vegas Strip.

This came from Scot Krause’s recent column in Gaming Today, where he regularly writes about casino players clubs and promotions.  Check here for his ongoing detailed descriptions of individual Las Vegas players clubs.

PALMS

The world’s largest Hooters restaurant is now open here.

“Play for Prizes” is running as usual Monday through Friday. Play for Lowes gift cards October 5-16.  Play for Macy’s gift cards October 19-30.  Redemption times are the same as usual, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and Fridays 10 a.m.-midnight.

Again, many gift days are offered – every Saturday and Sunday in October plus October 12.  To earn the gift-of-the-day, you need 100 base points on video slots or 500 base points on video poker, on that same day between 12:01 a.m. and 6:59 p.m.

Weekly drawings continue at 7 p.m. on Fridays – 10 winners each week win up to $3000 cash.   (Earn 2x entries Fridays 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and 5x entries Fridays 8 p.m.-11:59 p.m.)  There is an added “Bonus Play”: “Activate 10 or more base drawing entries and receive $10 in Free Slot Play on Saturday.”  More details at Club Palms.

As I mentioned last month, some machines are still not showing your point accumulation as you play, but will show the correct total after you remove your card and then put it back in.

The area between Hooters and the table games is back to normal, including the return of the quarter full-pay Deuce machines.  That whole section of the casino had been cleared out earlier in the week for what we finally found out (thanks to a LVA QOD) was a private pool party September 29 sponsored by an unnamed “tech company.”   It was reported that Beyoncé was paid SIX MILLION to perform a private concert at that party!

SILVERTON

Brad and I have always like the restaurants at Silverton, and the Sundance Grill there is no exception.  On October 1 we took advantage of their Play for Pasta promotion which runs every Thursday in October, earning 400 points for a free pasta meal there.  Good eatin’!!!  The food voucher can be used as a $10 credit for whatever you order, but if you like good pasta, the frugal option is to use the voucher for the free pasta dinner which regularly runs $15-16.  It comes with your choice of salad or soup (we had a very good navy bean one) and garlic bread.

BOYD PROPERTIES (The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, and Sam’s Town)

The “B Loyal to the Royal” promotion continues at the Gold Coast Sunday-Thursday, October 4-22.  (Notice that early stop date.) See rules here.  Although the Orleans ran this same promo in September, I can find no mention of it continuing there into October.

TUSCANY

The 20% all-month senior discount travels to Tuscany Gardens in October.

A note on the Stations free football contest. You get a “touchdown” when you get 20 picks right, then another when you get the next 80 correct, then the next 80, etc. As you get 15 picks per week, the first goal is easy to achieve–but you’d have to get 12 out of 15 consistently correct to score two more touchdowns before the season ends. (I crippled myself in the first week by going 6 and 9, though I’ve had 11 or more wins in each week since.) As you’re picking straight up winners, it’s fairly easy to win a majority of your picks, but there are so many entrants that last week, going 16-0 got you a whopping $95, unless you hit the tiebreaker (total for the Monday night game), which was so absurdly high that only one crazy person got the 10 grand first prize.
The prize for my first “touchdown” was feeble–2,500 points, or $2.50. I hope that the prize for my second touchdown is something decent. You get to participate in the “playoffs” if you get 180 picks right (three touchdowns), but since you have to average 12 wins per week to manage that, I’m not optimistic–I would have to actually average 13 wins, due to my slow start.
It’s a fun contest, and it’s free, but your chances of winning anything substantial are basically nil. I’m curious as to what other people got for their first “touchdown.”

    Jean,

I called a host at Circus Circus and got some new information. The comp levels as shown above, continue as described. The Elite Tiers are suspended currently, due to the reintroduction of a new tier program, first of next year. I hope the benefits will not be gutted to much.

    Play information:

$100 daily theo will get you casino rate for rooms and basic mailers.
$500 daily theo will get you five night free mailers and special invites/offers.
$1,000 Daily theo will get five night offers (perhaps in suites) with generous food offering and invites to Top Tier events. At the $500 level you are in their category 2 and at $1,000 your in around their category 1 level.

There is no longer true cash back, but freeplay offerings have been expanded. They seem to be getting a lot of interest from former CET players recently. This does seem to be a much better club than Mlife. It should be noted that some of their rooms (Casino Tower & Suites) are among the best of MGMMirage. THE Steakhouse is the top one, for 20 years.

If you can stand children/parents, perhaps this could be a good bet, on the strip. In your first book, The Frugal Gambler, you talked a lot about these second tier properties. Perhaps in today’s gambling environment; The Circus is worth a second look?

  3. George Bauslaugh says:

You’re correct, let me clarify, what I meant to have said: At the Sapphire Level, you get “2” MGMMirage show tickets, on a semi-annual basis (though I do think you get Adventure Dome tickets monthly). The only program I know of, with monthly show tickets; is the CET Total Rewards program, at the Diamond & Seven Star’s Level.

I do wonder what their VIP Lounge is like and where it is. I have been in the VIP Check-in Room, for Platinum/Diamond/Sapphire levels. ***Here is a tip for you all, if you have even their basic card, you have a special line at hotel check in. It seems as though few people use it, thus a great time saver.

  4. mdmguyon says:

George wrote that one benefit to being at Sapphire level at the Circus Circus was:

    4. (2) Tickets to ANY MGMMirage show per month.

But the file that the link led to says “Complimentary Semiannual Show Tickets”

    Which is it?

  5. Kevin Lewis says:

BTW, I was highly dubious about the Ellis Island coin cash-in promo, but I did it twice with absolutely no hassle. This bodes well for future EI promos. It’s valuable knowledge, but usually only gained from being aware of the prevailing scuttlebutt, which casinos honor their promotions in forthright fashion, which honor them at face value but impose onerous restrictions, and which regularly renege on promos and/or cancel them prematurely and without notice. In the last category, Terrible’s comes to mind; they lost half their local player base a few years ago due to the way their butchered their promos. Palms, by contrast, keeps their promos alive for the entire stated duration even if the powers that be decide it wasn’t a good idea. I wish that part of VPFree was a player rating mechanism where we could see collective player opinions on how the casinos handle promos and marketing.

    Jean,

Scot Krause was wrong, in one key point in his article about the Circus Player’s Club. They do have tier levels as shown in this chart: http://www.circuscircus.com/images/PDF/CircusPlayersClubPrivileges.pdf

    http://www.circuscircus.com/casino/tiers_and_privileges.aspx

The bottom two status levels are Diamond & Platinum. Their top card–SAPPHIRE is only annual 50,000 points. It comes with the following key benefits, here are a few (of the many):
    1. VIP Players Club Lounge
    2. Personal Host.
    3. Premium Beverages while gambling.
    4. (2) Tickets to ANY MGMMirage show per month.
    5. (4) Adventure Dome tickets
    6. Guaranteed Rooms
    7. Upgrades to Suites.
    8. Airport Limo Transfers
    9. Premium Room Amenities Includes: In-Room Beverages (Water, Juice, Soft Drinks, Beer, and Liquor).
    10. Golf or Spa outings, semi-annual.
    11. Annual New Years Eve Gala.

And many more benefits, shown on the listing. They have the highest cash back (actual cash) on any program on The Strip and among the least demanding criteria for tier advancement and comps. Also, THE Steakhouse ans been voted “Best Steakhouse in Vegas”, for over 20 years.

Anyway Jean, just some thoughts, about an often overlooked property.

Good to know that the pasta promotion can be used as a $10 food credit. Thanks.
