MARCH VEGAS PROMOTIONS

I have had some negative reaction to my no longer “spooning” promotional information here when it can be found in other places. I am not apologizing for this. A smart player will realize that one person can’t “do it all.” I don’t visit or play in every casino in town. No one does. If you depend only on the promotion information found in this blog, you are missing out big time. The more resources you can check the more you are likely to find promotions that fit your likes and circumstances. Some might appeal to high rollers; others might fit the low roller’s goals. Some might attract advantage players looking for an edge; others might be attractive only to purely recreational players.

I will continue to describe promotions, not just in the first-of-the-month blog but as I find them throughout the month. But I urge you to broaden your search with these basic resources and also to check individual casino Websites:

  1. The Sunday Scroll down to “Casino Promotions” to view the weekly list.
  2. Vegas Values  – new list every Sunday plus a section of ongoing promotions.
  3. Scot Krause’s list of bonus point opportunities.
  4. The monthly Las Vegas Advisor

CET – Vegas Properties

A buffet offer that goes through the end of March. Go to Mark’s Las Vegas  to read about a buffet offer for some of the Las Vegas Caesars properties, an expansion of a promotion that ran at Planet Hollywood and the Rio at the end of last year.

ELLIS ISLAND

The 10x promotion here is a bit complicated. One player explained it on vpFREE:

“You never earn 10X on the first 500 points. Instead, they will give you $5 freeplay which is equivalent to receiving a 10X “bonus” plus you get 1X earning the 500 for a total of $5.50 in freeplay and cashback equivalent to 11X. Action exceeding the first 500 is rewarded with 10X points.”

Unnecessarily complicated, in my opinion, for such small amounts.

SILVERTON

The signing bonus here is now good only on slots, not on video poker.

PALMS

The “mystery multiplier” promotion which the Palms ran in February caused some confusion because of the “40K maximum bonus” rule. If it was a “mystery multiplier” day, you would swipe and get your mystery multiplier which, if you planned to use on slots, could be up to 15x and there was no bonus limit.

The problem came if you planned to play video poker. First, you would only get a 2x or 3x multiplier (nothing higher) and there was a 40k maximum bonus.  It is easiest to understand this if you distinguish between “base” points and “bonus points.” First, you earn “base” points that accumulate as you play – $1 coin-in earns one point. Then later the casino will add your bonus, but that bonus could never be more than 40K. (There was confusion when this promotion first started because some players were given incorrect information by players club personnel that the base + bonus added together could not exceed 40k.)

Here are some examples of possible playing scenarios:

You play 10K coin-in and have a 2x multiplier, the casino will add 10k so you have a total of 20k (base+bonus= 2x)

You play 10K coin-in and have a 3x multiplier, the casino will add 20K so you have a total of 30k (base+bonus=3x)

You play 20K and have a 2x, the casino will add 20k so you have a total of 40K.

You play 20K and have a 3x, the casino will add 40K so you have a total of 60K.

Now here is where it gets complicated:

You play 30k and have a 2x, the casino will add 30k for a total of 60K

You play 30k and have a 3x, the casino will add only 40K (maximum bonus) for a total of 70K

You play 40k, it doesn’t matter if you have a 2x or 3x; you will get added only the maximum bonus of 40K for a total of 80K.

In our March mailer, we see that there are again mystery point multipliers but the details are different than in February. First I applaud the casino for clarifying the difference between the slot and VP multipliers: “Swipe and play with up to 15x points on slots and 3x points on VP.” VP players know in advance they won’t get anything higher than 3x!

However, they change another detail: “Maximum of 80,000 adjusted points per day.” (Another change here is that they don’t say this limit is for VP only.) Questions arise in my mind. Does “adjusted” points mean the same as the February “bonus” points and they are doubling the bonus amount, from 40k to 80k. That would mean if you played 80k with a 2x multiplier you would get 80 “base” and “80 bonus” for a “true” 160k total. Play 40K base points and get an extra 80K added if you get a 3X multiplier.  A wise player will check this out before starting to play to be sure the “adjusted” point limit isn’t a total of base and bonus points.

Casinos are like Politicians If they told the Truth no one would visit or vote
for them!! Cause you can’t tell which is which?

  2. Mike Garner says:

The reason they can’t be truthful upfront is because they’re a casino.

  3. Kevin Lewis says:

I wonder why anyone should even bother to figure out the Palms gobbledygook when the best machines that earn points are 9/6 JOB (and only a few at that), and the points multipliers will, at best, get you back to breakeven. If those machines pay full points (and some don’t), then you’ll get 0.50% points, for a grand total of…drum roll, pleeez…. 100.04%. This is making the very safe assumption that you’ll only get the 2x multiplier. So put in $10,000, lose $46, and earn $54 in comps!!!!! WHEE!! Why even go there?

(One caveat: if you have managed to avoid being no-mailed, this is a relatively painless way to put in your monthly obligation. Reports are, though, that VP players are generally treated by the Palms like pocket lint. I am out of town, and for $30K coin-in on JOB a few months ago (gift promo), I have received…nothing.)

  4. That has been true for quite awhile on the FPDW machines.

  5. Denis says:

Hi Jean, concerning the Palms. I recently contacted them, they said FPVP is excluded from getting any points. Is this something special in March?

  6. Dennis OBrien says:

why can’t they just be truthful upfront?
