FEBRUARY VEGAS PROMOTION NEWS

Many casinos are doing a better job on their websites, giving detailed timely promotion information and updated details on personal players club accounts. And some are even providing extra conveniences.  For example, you can go to any Boyd property website and download and/or print out a tax win/loss statement or any W-2G you have received for the last 3 years. You may want to check out the websites of the casinos where you play and see if there is any help for you there before you start doing your tax returns.

A general caution about multiple-point promotions: Some casinos offer ones on individual player mailers that are not open to the general public. I know this is true on some – or all? – Boyd property mailers. Also true for the Palms – and perhaps for all Station properties? There may be others.  So this might be the reason you and a friend might have an argument over whether there are multiple points on such-and-such day.

And to answer a reader’s question: No, I am not on Twitter!

THE PLAZA

The Plaza has discontinued the loss rebate for new members.  They also have changed the benefits of their players club. You can check out the new details at their website.

TUSCANY

Food Promo – Every Tuesday in February when you earn 200 slot points you will receive a 2-for-1 entrée coupon to Marilyn’s Café or Pub 365.

The Senior Thank-You Thursdays (50+) promo continues, featuring food discounts and a free slot tournament. Also continuing is the monthly senior 20% discount that moves around to various departments. In February it stops at the Caffé Bottega.

PALMS

The buffet is now open 24/7 since the coffee shop is closed for remodeling. I don’t know how long this will be!

Continuing in February as it was in January, the program for seniors is Timeless Tuesdays, not the My Generation Wednesday at other Station properties. There are some decent benefits: food and drink specials; drawings; a hot-seat promo; and $5 movies. However, no multiple points like in the My Generation program elsewhere.

As far as Palms promotions for everyone, most seem to continue to be separate from Station-wide ones.   The Palms Friday drawings seem to be patterned after the ones that have been running there for years. I cannot emphasize enough how very carefully you need to read the details about Station promotions and especially multiple-point days; check the logos on all ads and mailers to see what individual casinos, or casino groups, are giving these bonus points and on what days. Players who play at Stations or Fiesta casinos as well as the Palms may get a separate mailer for these casinos and for the Palms. It is just like I have discussed for years about the Boyd properties. “Child” properties under a “mother” umbrella company like to show their independence by having their own goals and plans and interests. Don’t assume because one “child” casino is doing a particular promotion or offers a certain benefit that these will be available at a sister property.

One promotion I like at the Palms, which ran in January and continues in February, is being able to earn free Brenden Theater movie tickets every Monday by earning base 300 points. Earning period on Mondays is from 12:01 a.m.-9:59 p.m. but you have to redeem for the movie ticket at Rewards Center between 8 a.m.-10 p.m. The tickets can then be used at a future time, but are not valid for 3D films, Sony, IMAX, or special engagements.

BOYD PROPERTIES

Young at Heart senior promotions take place on Wednesdays at all seven Boyd properties in Las Vegas, but the details vary considerably. Read the rules carefully! There are two different links: one for the 3 downtown properties (Main Street Station, California and Fremont) and one for the four other properties.

Both of these (plus printed rules for other promotions) contain a new rule about “advantage players.” I am hoping this player-unfriendly rule is the product of over-zealous lawyers who don’t know much about how to attract and keep casino customers. Do they know that not all players who play “good” games know accurate strategy and thus are still giving the casino a big edge? Do they know that most skilled players have relatives and friends they bring to the casino who don’t know a video poker table from a coffee table? Do they realize that even knowledgeable players often don’t stick to the very best plays?

Do they understand players come into the casino trying to win? The players know it won’t happen every time – or even often – but they want to enjoy the fun atmosphere where there is at least the illusion of hope. Reading a rule like this reduces the enjoyment – if I do hit a jackpot is the casino going to punish me? Should I check my brain at the door?

Mark, South Point, famously, sends few or no offers to out-of-towers or to people who have won there, so if you fall into both categories, don’t expect a coupon for ten cents off an ice cream cone.

Jean, what’s the status of the Westgate Resort, with their 2 nite special, with resort
tour $29 special. I heard that their blackjack was 6-5.
are there sweeter deals now in vegas?
I generally stay at the Orleans and Palace Station comp.
    sincere thanks and appreciation. mark

There are two major changes in Boyd Properties point multiplier promotions I noted:
1.Young At Heart Wednesdays limits VP point multiplier to a maximum of 10 times points, not the 50 maximum applicable to reels. This is a major change from past years when the max was also 50 times for VP players.
    2. On Monday 6x point multiplier days some VP machines are excluded. This is a change from previous years when, to my knowledge, there were no excluded machines, at least at the Gold Coast and Sam’s Town.
    3. Sam’s Town has removed 9/6 JOB machines, at least I could not find any.

    Thanks for the lively update!

Question: do you have any idea why as out of town people (Phoenix) we never get any offers from Southcoast. We have played their twice this past year ffor about an hour or two each time. Multi hand (3) VP at the one and two dollar level. And once on a regular slot for about 30 minutes and won $1600. I hit a dollar royal once as well.

We checked the slot booth and they do have our address. What gives? If you know.

    Thanks.

    Mark
