Just put our 2011 tax returns in the mail today. This reminded me of the many questions about taxes down through the years. Of course many of these have been answered in my book Tax Help for Gamblers, which, by the way, is now available in a new updated edition, both in paperback and as an eBook.

I must caution everyone not to take every piece of gambling information you read on the Internet as “gospel.” That goes especially for gambling forums, where sometimes people post information about video poker games, or promotions, or casino policies that turns out to be erroneous. These are usually inadvertent mistakes: A poster doesn’t do a thorough scouting job. Or, a casino employee gives out incorrect or incomplete details. Or, a casino makes a sudden mid-stream change.

Because there are Caesars (formerly called Harrah’s) properties in many areas of the country, I know there are many players who welcome information on these casinos since they may travel to and play in more than one.
