Surprise Response

Wow!  I’m surprised that almost no one else wondered about the wisdom of the “Drink Us Dry” promotion to celebrate the closing of O’Sheas Casino.  I talked about this in my last blog entry and speculated that someone’s job might be on the line, perhaps even more than one.

Well, some wanted explanations of my viewpoint, so here goes:

The Taxing Part of Gambling

Just put our 2011 tax returns in the mail today.  This reminded me of the many questions about taxes down through the years.  Of course many of these have been answered in my book Tax Help for Gamblers, which, by the way, is now available in a new updated edition, both in paperback and as an eBook.

However, there has been interest in some of our personal tax details.

A Positive Look at the Future

I must caution everyone not to take every piece of gambling information you read on the Internet as “gospel.”  That goes especially for gambling forums, where sometimes people post information about video poker games, or promotions, or casino policies that turns out to be erroneous.  These are usually inadvertent mistakes:  A poster doesn’t do a thorough scouting job.  Or, a casino employee gives out incorrect or incomplete details. Or, a casino makes a sudden mid-stream change.

This problem even exists in the “Comments” right here on my blog.

Valuable Resources for Harrah’s Players

Because there are Caesars (formerly called Harrah’s) properties in many areas of the country, I know there are many players who welcome information on these casinos since they may travel to and play in more than one.  And this is especially true recently since there have been so many changes in the players club system.

Here are some of the resources I use to keep up (to supplement my never-ending questioning at players club desks all over the country!):
