March Vegas Promotions

A note here at the beginning, particularly for new readers of this monthly report.  I don’t report on the same casinos each month. And even with those I usually mention, I don’t cover every promotion or mention all the details if I have described it in earlier reports.  My main goal is to pick casinos and promotions that I think will help locals and out-of-towners have information that might not be widely known, particularly those frequent changes casinos make –both the good and the bad!  So if you haven’t been reading here recently, you might find it helpful to go back a few months and “catch up” on the information in previous reports.

I also would like to recommend a resource that I find has useful information for both Vegas visitors and locals, particularly details about players clubs.

A Promotional “Sale”

I just got an e-mail from the Palms informing me of a 1/2-price “sale” tomorrow  (Wednesday, Feb. 27).  That is a regular play-and-earn-stuff day, but the required points for the “stuff” items has been reduced, many by one-half.

Food for Thought

WARNING: Proud Grandma Photos

I try not to brag about my grandchildren or bore you with proud Grandma photos, but some of you have followed the Frugal Family doings down through the years.  For those who are interested in an update, here are photos taken December 15, 2012 at a beautiful Destin, Florida beach on the occasion of grandson Zachary’s marriage to Taylor.

There were more formal group pictures of the wedding party, but I liked this one best.  With your bare feet in the sand and the beginning of a beautiful sunset – it was impossible not to want to jump for joy.

The 5 in the middle are all in school.  Steve and Angela are going to Troy University at night,  finishing up work on their Bachelor Degrees they started long ago.  Kaitlynn, Zachary, and Taylor are attending Columbus State University.  Kaitlynn is a Freshman, on an athletic scholarship for cross-country.  Zachary and Taylor are Sophomores.  Zachary is in a joint Army National Guard and ROTC program.  One very busy family!

More Response to your Comments

First, thanks to everyone who says nice things about this blog. I find it a real compliment when people say they read it. A writer’s nightmare is when no one reads what they write!  🙂

Now to your questions and issues.

Q:  A friend and I both play at Harrah’s properties. Which is most advantageous, one of us to be a higher Diamond or both of us to be just Diamond level?

Q:  We will be in Vegas in March. Where do you suggest the best slot play and bargains are?

Sorry to say it is almost impossible for me to tackle questions like these

Followup on Caesars Palace

My apologies for a delay in approving some of your Comments and answering some of your questions.  Brad and I have been out of town for several days and then I have been down with some respiratory problems.  But now I am back.  (By the way,  I do not respond quickly to people who shout at me – that’s what you are doing when you type in all caps!)

I knew there would be controversy if I wrote about Caesars.  Here is what you need to remember:

Caesars Palace – Food Report

Our play on the Vegas Strip has steadily decreased over the years.  Changing from out-of-town tourists to residents decreased our need for rooms so we shifted the emphasis away from good plays that included heavy comps.  Now we could spread our nets all over town, looking for good plays where often the main advantage was frequent bounce-back amounts and comps were only a side benefit.  Then some of the Strip casinos we used to frequent started downgrading video poker schedules and/or decreasing their players club benefits and we had to cross them off our playlists.

Another change that impacted us was that some Strip properties quit mailing offers to locals.

Q+A’s

It’s time to answer some of the questions that have appeared in the “Comments” or come to me in private e-mails.

Where can I find out what casinos offer the best Video Poker Odds and what those odds are?
