Palms News and a Sad Story

Palms July News

The “Play, Earn, and Win” promotion continues on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays , and again has the feature that allows you to combine your points over multiple days and that generates very very long lines at the Promotion Center on Friday late afternoons and evenings.

The usual mini earn-and-swipe promotion continues on Tuesdays.  And their usual drawings continue on Fridays and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. with a “Grand Prize Mini Game” following each drawing.   You can earn 5x drawing entries on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Brenden Theaters is advertising some specials:  $5 Mondays, $4 Thursdays for Sterling Advantage seniors, and $22 Two for Tuesdays that includes 2 tickets, 2 medium drinks, and one medium popcorn.

Now for the biggie news – and a sad story for me.

Caesars “Rain Man” Suite

Here are the photos I promised.  If you don’t know why this is called the “Rain Man” suite, you may have not seen – or don’t remember –  that wonderful movie “Rain Man.”  (One of my all-time favorite movies!)  You can Google “Caesars Rain Man Suite” and find more photos and details.

Almost Grown-Up Vegas Visitors

Recently we played host for 8 days to three under-twenty-one “kids” – I guess our grandchildren will always be “kids” to us even when they are much older!   Kaitlynn is almost 19, and grandson Zachary and his new bride, Taylor, are both 20.  We had never had trouble keeping the kids busy on their Vegas visits for all these last 20 years, but now would there be enough almost-grown-up things to keep them entertained?

I shouldn’t have worried – we never had a problem with finding fun things to do.  The problem was finding enough time to do all the things that interested them.  Here are some of the highlights:

Back Home Again

We always enjoy going to the Horseshoe in Hammond, IN, but are always tired when we get home.  We play more hours a day when we are out of town than when we are home in Vegas.  And although playing VP is fun for us, once a session goes over 3 hours our body starts to complain!  Then it is time to take a break.  At the Shoe our favorite place to take a break is their buffet, still one of our all-time favorites of the many we have visited in casinos all over the U.S.  And of course another choice where we can relax in peace and quiet is their classy Seven Star Lounge.  I hear there are future plans to build an attached hotel.  That would be nice since it would be easier to walk to one’s room to take an afternoon nap, something that is inconvenient when you have to shuttle back and forth to your hotel.

Today something that hasn’t happened to us for a long time took place.

New Noir Tier Information

From their Web site, here is their tier levels:

Tier Level is determined by your total number of accumulated Tier Credits as follows:

  • Sapphire – Up to 24,999 Tier      Credits
  • Pearl – 25,000 Tier Credits
  • Gold – 75,000 Tier Credits
  • Platinum – 200,000 Tier Credits
  • NOIR – By invitation only

You will notice that there is no longer any number beside Noir.  It used to be one million, but recently that number was taken down.

Tripping out of Town

We will be flying to Hammond Horseshoe tomorrow (June 17) for the first of our four Harrah’s 7 Star ”retreats” we have earned this year. We always enjoy this casino since it has the games we like and one of our favorite buffets. This trip will be especially enjoyable because we will be getting together with several VP-loving friends.

If any of you happen to be there these next three days, we would love to see you.  Brad and I are always happy to stop playing and chat with fellow frugalites. You can find us in the High Limit room Monday evening and Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings. (With the time change, we don’t “do” mornings!)

Note:  You can be on my friend on Facebook by clicking here.

Caesars Information

I found out recently that Caesars has changed their mathematical formula that they use to allocate offers.  I don’t know just when they did this, but perhaps it was last fall since that was when, after years of no offers for us as Vegas locals, we began getting offers with substantial free play similar to those out-of-towners received. They use a very complex formula to calculate a customer MDV – Market Daily Value.

GAMBLING TAXES IN OHIO

Now that all four new casinos in Ohio are open for business, gamblers there may not know some of the tax implications they will have to deal with.  It is a good news/bad news situation.  The good news is that as of January 1, 2013, Ohio residents got a new state tax break they could not enjoy in the past, that is they can now deduct gambling losses from gambling wins just like they can do on their federal return.

However, the bad news

More June Vegas Promotions

Here are some promotions I didn’t find out about until after I posted the earlier monthly report.  I hate when casinos don’t get their mailers out BEFORE the first of the month.  Some of ours came late this month and we missed some valuable offers!!  🙁  Sometimes casinos will give that fact some consideration – I always ask.  However, sometimes it isn’t possible to “make it up.”
