Frugal VP – the Book

I have just updated the e-Book version of Frugal Video Poker. It is a bargain – pardon me for saying – yea, it is an extra frugal bargain indeed at $7.95. If you learned only one money-saving hint you didn’t know – or had forgotten – you probably would make back that much, at the least.

It really pains me to read some of the questions I get in e-mails or see on Internet forums. It is obvious that people are playing a game they know so little about – and thus losing so much more than they need to. I keep writing when I probably really should retire – partly because I hate to see people not get good value for their gambling dollar.

Yes, there is a map showing the path to becoming a successful video poker player – but it isn’t hidden in a dusty old bottle in a cave in the Nevada desert. You can find a very detailed one in the Frugal Video Poker book, with step-by-step clear instructions that don’t confuse you with a lot of complicated math at the beginning while you are just learning the basics. And do you have the Frugal Video Poker software program but don’t know how to use its many extra features, like figuring out the value of quad-bonus promotions or extra slot club benefits? The book has lessons in the back to walk you through these features.

  1. I have yet to see this blog address the type of video poker player I am. I go to Vegas about 3 times a year and stay for a week each summer. I love VP, craps and live poker. I have morphed my strategy to fit my goal of winning, but not on a long-term basis like you locals. The only Royal I have hit I broke up two Queens and drew two cards. I like Double Double Bonus because of the high payouts for four aces. I would never play straight JOB, because my goal is not long play to get rewarded with a Snuggie from the gambling club, my goal is to hit royals and four of a kinds. I CAREFULLY read all pay scales, and truly enjoy playing VP in the locals casinos rather than the Strip. There are probably lots of players like me who try very hard to play right, but look to hit big and not just sustain play.

  2. Whenever you order an e-Book, you automatically get the most up-to-date version. Books are immediately updated whenever the author puts in revisions.

I used to get physically ill when I saw people throwing their money away when they didn’t have to, but no more. There are two basic truths about humanity:

    1. People are idiots.
    2. That subset of humanity which consists of people who gamble, are TOTAL idiots.

This is proved daily by the crowds of people happily playing 6-5 blackjack, and the crowds of people happily playing 6-5 bonus poker. Not to mention, the crowds of people voluntarily entering a Harrah’s casino.

So I don’t think you can reach these people with any amount of good gambling advice; they’re immune to it. Case in point: a few years ago, we knew someone we called “Crazy Mary”. Crazy Mary played only ONE machine–a .25 FPDW at the Fiesta. If her machine was occupied when she arrived, she simply stood at the end of the aisle and stared at the person playing it until they eventually got creeped out and left. The reason Crazy Mary wanted only “her” machine is that for a year or so, it behaved like her personal ATM. She hit a royal every two days or so, and almost every session, she hit deuces at least once. AND SHE WAS AN AWFUL PLAYER. For example, she looooved to hold A10 suited, despite the fact that you NEVER hold that combination in FPDW. And of course, she kept connecting. I personally saw her hit two royals that way. On the same day. She eventually went broke, but in that year, she was up on that machine, by her accounting, over $20,000.

Do you think that Frugal Video Poker could possibly teach players like Crazy Mary anything???

If I purchase e-book, how can I tell if I am ordering the updated version? On LVA Store site there is no indication that the version for sale is updated. Thanks.
