A Frugal Poll

A reader suggestion, for one of their famous polls, from today’s Question-of-the-Day: “What is the most frugal thing you’ve done in Vegas (all nods to Jean Scott)? Put another way, what have you done that has saved you the most money?” Pick as many of our (at times tongue-in-cheek) suggestions as apply, and please send us your own stories, schemes, and scams.

Okay, everyone, go to the poll link and see if you can out-frugal me!http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/poll.cfm

I have been an amateur magician for nearly 50 years (eegads!). Several times when I am feeling frugal I will take a deck of cards, walk into a bar on the strip, find some mildly imbibed patrons and ask “Hey, want to see a neat card trick?”

I get to drink for free! As they usually offer to buy me a drink. I never ask for anything and if I’m not offered one I wish them well and move on. Since I am not accepting payment I don’t need a performers license and I’ve never been asked to leave by any establishment. I’ve been doing this for 15 years.

Of course, after three Manhattans or Margaritas the tricks become real hard to perform so I usually alternate between a soft drink and a real drink.

    Now that’s frugal!

Taking the $2 express bus downtown instead of renting a car like I normally do.
