MORE APRIL VEGAS PROMOTIONS

Monthly mailings were running late from several casinos.  I hate to start off a blog entry with a rant, but I can’t understand why casinos are so dilatory in their advance planning.  A promotion that ran a day before I got the mailer telling about it does not seem like a good marketing technique.  Casino executives:  EVERY MONTH STARTS ON THE FIRST!  Don’t you want players on the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd day of the month.  Maybe we should all just stay home until we got our mailers.  Would you get the message then?

End of rant!

TUSCANY

They asked for our “wish lists” and actually acted upon them – a miracle from a casino!  The two most popular promotions are back!  Seniors (50+) can earn pull tabs on Thursdays.  Earn 500 points for 1 pull tab and a chance for up to $100 in free play – minimum $5.  Max of two pull tabs per day.

Gift cards are back on “Sunday Fundays,” each Sunday in April.  Earn 1,000 same-day base points and get a $10 gift card (Max of 4 per player, per day).  We will have to wait and see what the gift card selection includes.  In the past there were always some very useable cards, i.e., Wal-Mart.

SOUTH POINT

They are running a “Spin 2 Win” promotion on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays in April.  Beginning at 3 a.m., earn 500 same-day points on slots or video reels or 2,000 same-day points on video poker to earn a spin to win up to 100,000 points.  On Wednesdays earn the same number of points as above and receive a his or hers polo shirt and you keep the points.

See details and more promotions at http://www.southpointcasino.com/upcoming-events.php?cid=461&jmid=63054&j=305277231.

PALMS

“Play, Earn, and Win” is now called “Play for Prizes.”  The first earning period is Monday through Friday, March 31-April 11 and features automotive items, including gas cards.  Second is Monday through Friday, April 14-25, and offers Albertsons and Walgreen gift cards.    Redemption times are listed as “Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m.-midnight.”

Another change in the “Palms Power Pulls,” or to be more exact a change back.  The days haven’t changed, still on Wednesdays and Fridays, but it says to “redeem at the Promotion Center.”  I guess just putting the free play on a person’s slot club wasn’t working – people were collecting for all their friends and family????  The free play is still loaded on your card but only after you have checked into the Promotions Center and shown your players card and ID.

Drawings continue on Fridays at 7 p.m.  The mailer again mentions that the everyone-wins feature is active for April.  2x entries can be earned on Sundays and Tuesdays.

I am reporting only the details given on our mailers.  As usual you need to check the fine print in the detailed explanations of all promotions at the promotion or slot club desk.

There is a new restaurant open with an entrance near the salon.  It is called Back Room Burger and it also opens out to a patio by the pool.  I hear the spa in that area is also being remodeled and will reopen sometime in the near future.

Oops, I feel another rant coming on:  Just like I talked about in my last blog about Tuscany’s “Everything” senior discount having many exceptions, the Palms bugs me with their $4 senior Thursdays ad for $4 movies.  “All day” – so far that’s good…then “every movie” – that’s not good – because the next line – in extremely fine print…”Excludes Sony, IMAX, 3D, & special engagements.”  DO NOT USE THE WORDS “everything” or “every” IF THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS!!!

Wheeeeee!  I feel better now.

I am a regular reader of your internet newsletter.
Your mention of the South Point April promos prompted me to write.
All my wife and I play is video poker. South Point’s promos (spin and win and the Wednesday shirts) are totally absurd. There is no way the normal video poker player can earn 2,000 points in one day. By normal I mean someone that plays some quarters, some dimes and some nickels (when not winning). That is $2,000 in at South Point. For some of us that is a lot of money. What are they trying to do? Discourage video poker playing??
Very dissatisfied with this so called promo.

Jean, do you know if the almost-positive machines at Stations casinos get the $1 = 3 points like all the other negative machines; also, whether they get the 6 points periodic bonuses (Sundays this month)? I am referring to the machines that are marked “up to 99.8%” and include such games as NSUD and Triple Bonus Plus, etc. Those would be a mildly +EV play on 6-point days.

Concerning the Palms and their “exceptions” I couldn’t agree more with you Jean. I only visit 2-4 times a year but have passed on a lot of “free” offers in various casinos simply because I don’t want to spend what time I have trying to read the fine print or else being disappointed because I misunderstood something. Have a wonderful day!
