News from Caesars Properties

If you play at a Caesars Entertainment property, hopefully you already know about the Seven Star Insider.  (http://www.sevenstarsinsider.com/site/sevenstarsinsider/)  I have often talked about this very helpful website, one full of information that can make your CZR play more enjoyable and financially successful, even if you aren’t at the Seven Star tier level.  Perhaps you have already subscribed to the monthly newsletter, but you may not know about another middle-of-the-month feature you can access by clicking on “Latest News” at the top of the home page.  Here are just a few tidbits about Caesars Palace, among many others from various casinos, in the latest report, news that I had not heard about but found very interesting:

  • Between The Sheets – Caesars Palace has switched out the bedding in its Augustus and Octavius Towers. The double sheeting, as well as the combination of duvets and coverlets, has been replaced by triple-sheeting. Guest comments have been favorable, according to management.

  • Cover-Up – While they’re still available in the suites, guest robes have been removed from all other rooms. Apparently, a vast majority of the robes went unused for an extended period of time. Seven Stars cardholders not staying in suites can request robes by contacting Guest Services.
  • Going The Distance – Starting next month, guests will be able to claim any offers they’ve qualified for at a distribution location near the Seven Stars/Diamond registration desk in the Augustus Tower. Currently, guests are required to walk through the casino to the convention space – about 100 yards. [It seems like miles to Brad and me these days!]
  • Holding Court – The new Forum Food Court – which is replacing the Cypress Street Marketplace – will open December 23. Look for Smashburger, Earl of Sandwich, Philip’s Seafood, Graeter’s Ice-cream, an exciting new Mexican and Asian concept, as well as a pizza brand that has yet to be announced.

This last item about the new Forum Food Court coming to Caesars Palace reminded me that I had been meaning to talk here about the new casual eating choice recently opened at Harrah’s Las Vegas.  Called the Fulton Street Food Hall, it looks like a “food court” to me – but here is how they describe it on their Web site – http://www.harrahslasvegas.com/restaurants/Fulton-Street-Food-Hall.html#.VI5T9Ll0wrA:

This is not a food court, but a chef driven marketplace offering various selections made fresh throughout the day.

It starts with a beautiful display case of bakery-fresh pastries, pies, muffins and cakes with an adjacent coffee bar with all of the best blends possible. Nearby, a frozen yogurt station offers a variety of choose-your-own toppings, followed by a pizza station, with pies baked right in front of you. The chef’s signature pizza crust and sauce is a Harrah’s original creation.

Homemade soups and baked potatoes are also on display, right next to a “create your own” salad bar. Rounding the corner is the immense sandwich display. Pick up a fruit and cheese platter, or try our homemade lasagna at the food hall’s comfort food corner, and you’re on your way.

Finally, don’t forget to visit the sushi bar for daily sushi specials, or grab a bento box to go. Sushi not your thing? Try the neighboring noodle bar, with 10 of the best pan-Asian noodle dishes and soups you can try, from ramen to wonton soup.

Whatever you are craving, you’ll find it here. It also serves a sit-down, off-the menu breakfast from 6 a.m. – 11:30am.

Oh, okay. It is a cut above many other food courts. We’ve eaten there quite a few times, sometimes with friends, and we like the idea that everyone can get a tray and choose what they want and then we can all meet at the register so I can use a large food coupon amount, one that has to be used up all at one time. Of course we can do that at a buffet, but this gives us a new option at Harrah’s.

The food is high quality. Brad really likes the pizza and soups. I like the huge baked potato that I can “dress up.” You choose your own salad makings and an employee tosses it for you. Another will heat your sandwich choices. The prices seem high on some items and reasonable on others. But don’t go in without a players card if you want to be frugal. On most items the Total Rewards price is one dollar lower than the regular price.  The biggest bargain is the do-it-yourself frozen yogurt. Take one of the large cups and pile it as high as you want, with one flavor or mixing several of the dozen plus choices, but saving room for some the dozen toppings you can add. Total Reward price is only $5 – even $6 without a card is cheaper than most ice cream/yogurt shops charge.

Another CZR news item, definitely in the bad-news category, from a recent LVA QOD: Caesars Entertainment has “standardized” the mandatory resort fee at ALL its Las Vegas properties to a nightly $25 charge (before tax). Also, this applies to comped rooms, unless you’re Diamond or Seven Stars status.

Why would you want to go to a property that is going to declare bankruptcy? There are many others (Bellagio ,Wynn, Venetian,Southpoint) to name a few. I would avoid Caesars.

I was curious about the “food coupon” you mentioned. Does the food court work Similar to palms where you need to go to the slot club and ask for a specific amount as a certificate to use instead of swiping your card? I’m most interested in the smash burger location opening up, it would be great not having to drive to Maryland parkway for those delicious smash-fries. Thanks for the great info as always!
