APRIL VEGAS PROMOTIONS

BOYD PROPERTIES (Sam’s Town, The Orleans, Suncoast, and Gold Coast)

NOTE:  On April 1 (and the mailer says “No Foolin’) everyone (21 and older of course) can feel young at heart because the usual Young at Heart promotion for the 50+ crowd is open that day to players of all ages, young and old – at all 4 casinos!   Cash drawings, discounted or free meals (depending on how many points you earn that day), and $4 movie tickets for those casinos that have theaters.

To find the rules for the Wednesday Young at Heart promotion for all 4 casinos, go to http://static.boydgaming.net/boydgaming/media/downloads/yah-rules-2015-new.pdf.  Notice the time requirements for the multipliers and also the point caps, which are not the same for all 4 casinos.

Gold Coast continues their Mondays Senior Bonus Days with specials and promos for slot club members 50 and over, including 10x slots/5x VP multipliers.   You can find other offers/promotions for the Gold Coast at http://www.goldcoastcasino.com/whats-new/promotions.  Check each casino website for other property-specific promotions.

TUSCANY

No pull-tab or gift card promotions this month. L Instead there are hot-seat days and drawings days and gift days.

In our mailers, they refer to multiplier days on Mondays and Wednesdays (that’s a change in time) – 10x on all reels and 7x on ALL [my caps] video poker. This month I noticed a sticker on some multi-line machines which said “No 7x points on this machine.” So I wonder if “all” in the previous sentence really means “every one”? (Where is Bill Clinton when we need someone to define a word!)

The 20% Senior Discount, which moves to a different outlet each month, is for all bars and lounges for the month of April. Senior Day, for 50+, continues on Thursdays with the following features:

  • Earn 200 points for a free gift. Max of two gifts per day.
  • A free small coffee at Caffé Bottega. (This is the newly-branded casual food option near the pool, with a greatly expanded menu, including Stumptown coffee, craft beers, artisan sandwiches and specialty flatbreads. Opens at 6 a.m. Closing time varies.)
  • 2-for-1 entrees at Marilyn’s Café and The Cantina, dine-in only. Must get a coupon for this at the players club and both persons must be 50+.

PALMS

“Play for Prizes” is running as usual on Monday through Friday.  The first period is March 30-April 14, offering Albertsons and Einstein Bros. Bagels gift cards.  The second is April 13-24, when you can play for Lowe’s and Coffee Bean gift cards.  Redemption times are the same as usual, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and Fridays 10 a.m.-midnight.

Gift days for April are the 5th, 12th, and 19th.  To earn the gift-of-the-day, you need 100 base points on video slots or 500 base points on video poker, on that same day between 12:01 a.m. and 6:59 p.m.

Weekly drawings continue at 7 p.m. on Fridays.  (Earn 2x entries Fridays 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and 5x entries Fridays 8 p.m.-11:59 p.m.) There is an added “Bonus Play”: “Activate 10 or more drawing entries and receive $10 in Free Slot Play on Saturday.”

No more senior days or senior specials here anymore.

STATION AND FIESTA CASINOS

ELLIS ISLAND

Looks like I won’t be covering EI any more unless they take the mystery out of their new players club benefits system.  Just can’t play at a casino that has such a super-secretive program.  You must play not knowing how many points or benefits you are earning.  They tell you that “rewards” will just “pop up” during your play – but you don’t know when or how much. It is based on some system known only to the casino, depending on that machine’s theoretical hold and perhaps other factors such as actual win/loss amounts, time played, denomination – and perhaps the color of your hair…who knows – it’s a mystery, at least to the players!

Bounce-back free play based on multiple factors is quite common – EI was a rare example in the past by offering BB based strictly on coin-in.  I can see that they might want to change that.  And many casinos vary point worth by distinguishing between slots and VP, or by “stickering” machines with the better games and clearly showing the reduced value of the points. But to have no set schedule for point redemption seems very extreme and very player unfriendly.

This year’s “Best of Las Vegas” just came out, and Ellis Island was the Reader’s Pick for second place (after Red Rock Resort) for favorite Locals Casino. “Ellis Island targets locals with its players club discounts, and voters felt wanted enough for a second-place nod.” Information for this “Best” feature had been gathered for several months, and these votes perhaps came in before the recent slash-and-burn policies were put into place. Ellis Island may not score so many votes next year, unless their good food, craft drinks, and popular karaoke are more important to their customers than good gambling value.

COSMOPOLITAN

Finally, here is some good news about a players club that is making a change – a POSITIVE one for video poker players!  I’m in shock!

Now it takes only $6 to earn a point for VP, down from the previous $7.50 per point. Going from earning .133% to .167% is a very small change, but these days any upward value movement is a cause to rejoice.

However, the changes by the new owners aren’t all positive. You no longer can earn points on table games, sports book and electronic craps machines.

See details about the new players club, including revised tier levels, at http://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/join/aboutidentity.aspx.
